After Portugal got knocked out, I honestly lost a bit of interest in this World Cup.
The main reason I started following it so closely was Cristiano Ronaldo. Watching what could be his final World Cup felt special, and after Portugal's exit, I didn't feel like writing match previews anymore.
But football has a funny way of pulling you back.
Yesterday, Spain booked their place in the World Cup Final, and as someone who's really enjoyed watching them throughout this tournament, I'm excited again. Seeing my favourite team reach the final has completely brought back the excitement.
Before we get there though, one huge obstacle remains.
England vs Argentina.
A World Cup semi-final between two football giants, with a place in the final against Spain on the line.

How Both Teams Reached the Semi-Final
🇦🇷 Argentina
✅ Beat Egypt 3–2
✅ Beat Switzerland 3–1
Argentina has looked calm and composed, controlling games for long periods while creating consistent attacking opportunities.
🏴 England
✅ Beat Mexico 3–2
✅ Beat Norway 2–1
England has shown tremendous resilience but has needed moments of individual brilliance more often than complete control of matches.
Key Battles
Lionel Messi vs Declan Rice
Rice will have the difficult task of limiting the space Messi loves to operate in. If Messi finds room between England's midfield and defence, Argentina becomes incredibly difficult to stop.
Jude Bellingham vs Enzo Fernández
Perhaps the biggest midfield battle of the tournament so far. Both players can dictate the tempo and carry their teams forward.
Harry Kane vs Cristian Romero
Kane had a quiet quarter-final against Norway. England will need a much bigger performance from their captain tonight.
Statistical Edge
🇦🇷 Argentina
✅ Better attack
✅ More chances created
✅ Higher possession
✅ Better expected goals
🏴 England
✅ Equally solid defence
✅ Dangerous from set-pieces
✅ Multiple match winners across the squad
Prediction
This feels much closer than many people think.
England has enough quality to eliminate anyone, but Argentina has looked like the more complete team throughout the tournament.
Win Probability
🇦🇷 Argentina — 58%
🏴 England — 42%
Predicted Score
Argentina 2–1 England
Likely goalscorers
Lionel Messi
Julián Álvarez
Jude Bellingham
One thing is certain—whoever wins tonight will have to overcome what has been my favourite team of the tournament so far: Spain.
And after Spain's brilliant performance against France, I genuinely can't wait for Sunday's final.
